The "Perfect" Church

Well..of course it's mine..right?  My own tradition.. my denomination..and alll the others are not only imperfect but downright heretical!!..... errr no. I'm not speaking here so much about doctrinal purity or ritualistic conformity, or dogmatic consistency....important as all those things are. Nope..I'm speaking now about the average protestant congregation...it could be Baptist.. might be Uniting... could be Open Brethren.. could be Pentecostal...
What then, are the primary characteristics of the 'Perfect' church?  To me it seems reasonable that the congregation reflect in it's structure and manner the main values expressed in the New Testament, and most of all, of Christ Himself.
Let's do a bit of a Biblical comparison.
1/ The Disciples.   How did they relate to power and material issues?  Ok..James and John the sons of Zebedee had a very narrow and self serving outlook. The sequence of events in Mark 10 are quite astonishing when you think about it.
a)Jesus has just mentioned (for the 3rd time in this Gospel) that he is going to Jerusalem to suffer, die and rise.
b) The disciples James and John appear to have only heard the last bit "rise".. as they ask him something... i.e. 'Lord, when you are in your glory, can we two sit at your right and left hand" ?
Jesus response?  Well firstly he demonstrated their narrow selective view by asking if they can 'drink the same cup' as he would be.. suffer, die.. then he states this:

“You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. (Mark 10)

2/ The Modern Pastor.
So the first test of the perfect Church is the attitude of it's leaders.. do they LORD it.....or SLAVE it....relative to the congregation.   Does the pastor seek 'remuneration' suitable for a company executive or.. of a cleaner... is he there to suck up wealth and esteem...or to serve in simplicity of life.  We are supposed to know them by their fruits..and I suspect the Pastor driving the 7 series Beamer, or latest Merc, might have a few questions to answer from the Lord himself.  Placing this in the American situation, I'd guess that it might include 'not' having a private jet!.....or Church funded housing for the leaders extended family in the name of 'ministry'.

3/ ELDERS.  The qualifications for elders are very clearly spelt out in the Pastoral Epistles.  1Tim 3 is helpful.
One question I find of relevance also is the issue of family relationships within a Church. If for example there are 3 Elders and 2 of them are related by marriage to 50% of the congregation, and suddenly a son in law and a relative by recent marriage are appointed as 'Deacons'...it rather raises questions about the process and the spiritual condition not to mention the ultimate direction and vision of such a congregation.

In short, a 'perfect' Church to me, is one which is fundamentally Biblical in tone, simple in lifestyle, moderate in expenditure,  restrained (but not bereft of) in eartthly human  pleasure, generous in it's provision for the Mission of global disciple making,  not incestuous in the sense of too many people related by marriage, and outward looking, sharing the vision of Christ to go into all the world making disciples.  It seems to me that only such a Church can also be confident of Jesus promise "I will be with you always".....
