Some of those moments...

Sometimes its not a big thing that leaves a mark, its little little things in our day to day life that makes an impression...
when a baby, looks at you and smiles

without realising, you hold hands when crossing the road

 unexpected thank you note

smell of freshly washed dried clothes

unexpected and FAST downloading speed.

the time when you know that, things between you and him is more den friendship.

hot water bath after a tiring day.

single red rose.

hand written letter
.
clearing when you thought you will fail

warm wet sand in the beach.

last hug, when u know u wont see each other for a long time.

when someone keeps checking your temperature when ill.

 looking at your baby photos.

fighting for hot chocolate cake.

giggling with your girls, checking out some hot guy.

going through old stuffs, and finding something you thought was lost.

when you realise its the last five mins for bell, when u r really hungry

when chandler propsed monica, when ross yells"did she get off the plane?did she get off the plane?", when
pheobe spoke to her triplets, when rachel turned thirty.

when people call to wish you on your birthday, and you cant pick it up cause you are attending some stupid boring lecture.

soft pillow and warm blanket on a cold night

you are waiting, counting every min he is on phone with some other female, comes back smiles and says "jealous?" and you say "why should I be jealous?"

last exam.

proud look in your parents eyes.

Helps the medicine go down...

Sugar Bowl: Ohio State Buckeyes Vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

Part II: Second Half Reactions

This was truly an EPIC bowl game for the ages. I feel like people might be talking about this one for a very long time. After showing flashes of  vintage Mike Vick (minus the Ron Mexico alias and defenseless animal genocide) in the first half, Terrelle Pryor and the Buckeye offense were virtually stagnant in the second half. Luckily, in the end, it really didn't seem to matter. Ohio State's defense was steadfast with few mistakes and the pass rush was pretty damn scary. Cameron Heyward is going to be an NFL stud someday. You can quote me on that.
I got a slight case of that ever-present fan angst in the 3rd and 4th quarters..You know that feeling where you're thinking "I swear to God if they screw this up I'm bringing a gun to work tomorrow!" ? No? Just me? Anyway, my anger was subsided by a few nuances that popped up during the game.. I don't know if it was the OSU or Arkansas band that kept chiming in with the March of the Nerds from the Star Wars movies every single time the Hogs tried to drive the field, but it kept my spirits up. Maybe Mallett Skywalker should have used the force a bit to keep his Ewok-armed receivers from dropping balls. With :58 left in the 3rd I could have sworn someone was busting a Jedi mind trick on the commentator when he uttered the phrase "NFL perfect pass". One of the Ewoks, Jerius Wright reeled in a decent, at best, pass from Skywalker, and he acted like Joe Montana were still alive and with us today.... Also, those silly rubber pig hats were no less annoying than those pissed stained terrible towels that Steeler fans use as a rib bib by the time it was all said and done. I digress.

Side Question: Is this team called the Razorbacks because they have to shave their cheerleaders between quarters? WOOF!

I learned a lot from watching the Sugar Bowl this year. For starters, I hadn't realized that forward progress was a rule that applied solely to SEC teams...Like it or not the officials were handing out 'old fashioneds' to anyone not sporting drug propaganda on their silver helmets.
I'll give credit where it's due, that blocked kicked with a minute left was unreal!! I pooped a little, but once again the OSU defense stepped up HUGE and got the only turnover of the night against the Razorbacks when it mattered the most and snapped the 9 game Buckeye losing streak against SEC teams in bowl games! FINAL SCORE: Buckeyes-31...Arkansas- 26!! I know this second section of the night was a bit sloppy, but it's past my bed time and the editors have already left for the night. Later this week I'll give you my take on Marvin Lewis returning to the Bengals for another season, my pick for the National Championship, an NFL playoff preview, and a shitload more. My first day in this realm has been stellar! Thanks for stopping by... Stay classy San Diego.

                                                                                                                                                                     Warmest Regards,

A Bowl full of Sugar...

Sugar Bowl: Ohio State Buckeyes Vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

Part I: Half Time Reactions

Call me a half empty glass kinda guy, but I just didn't see OSU showing up and dominating an SEC opponent the way they have so far in this contest. There were two things prior to kickoff that I wanted to address. First was the focus being placed on the five Ohio State players who violated NCAA policy by selling their game worn gear and awarded accolades seemingly to feed their poor starving families and get some ink done.... If the performance based rings and tradition mean that little to a player, then that's a definite character issue, but in my opinion, they should be able to do whatever they want with any article or item that belongs to them...even if their choices are completely stupid and they'll undoubtedly regret them later in life. As far as head coach, Jim Tressel, asking the players in question for a "promise to play next year" even though they will all receive a five game suspension, they could tell him anything just to avoid not playing in the Sugar Bowl and if he doesn't have anything in writing then there isn't much he can do if they decide to enter the draft. Win or lose in the Sugar Bowl, these guys have already shown that they will probably go ahead and do whatever they want to. Let's face it without the star QB, RB, and WR, this would not be half the game it has been so far. Secondly, the pregame singing of the national anthem is not something I will generally be commenting on in my game recaps, but DARIUS RUCKER?! I haven't felt that good about my country since the Cracked Rear View album by Hootie and the Blowfish album debuted in 1994. For me, that was awesome!
On to the game, most people know this is Arkansas' first big BCS bowl game appearance and the Buckeyes (along with the rest of the Big Ten) have been abysmal against the SEC in recent years, so to say there is a ton riding on this one is a tremendous understatement. As a Buckeye fan, this game means a great deal to me and so far I'm not disappointed. The first touchdown of the game was pure madness. Pryor was strolling up the sideline on 3rd and 9 carrying the ball like a 3rd grader with an Incredible Hulk lunch box and, to the surprise of no one, the ball was knocked loose. Then the arch angel Dane Sanzenbacher swooped in for the save scoring touchdown over a pile of Arkansas defenders. It got me thinking of how many times big Dane has turned a shitty play into an absolute six point spectacle during his OSU career. That guy is always heads-up.
Following that play, I didn't care much for the topped squib kick by Basil on the ensuing kickoff. It won't really have much bearing on the game overall, but if it was a called play, it was a bad one. I thought DJ Williams had an amazing catch and nearly pulled off one of the greatest missed tackle plays since Jericho Cotchery's WTF play for the New York Jets a couple of seasons ago. Sorry, Razorback fans, he has fat wrists. TD overturned. Of course, on the very next play Joe Adams made up for losing one of the toughest catches of the season by scoring on one of the easiest.
After Bam...oops...I mean Boom Herron (the commentator screwed that up about 4 times I think) walked in untouched for the Buckeyes second score of the first quarter most of us were smelling a shoot out. Speaking of smells, how many pot leaves are pasted on the side of these Buckeye helmets this year? I feel like the 4th and 1 stop followed by a 44 yard catch by the TE, Fragel were the turning point in the first half. Slap a weed decal on that dudes dome. I also loved the Vest Bump by J-Tressy after the next Buckeye score. I haven't seen a guy work a piece of Wrigley's Spearmint gum like that guy since Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting.  I love winning, and I love my Buckeyes, but my favorite part of the first half had to be this little vixen....

Check out this Carol Brady-esque Razorback attention whore. Sit it down, Coug. Face time should be the least of your worries when your squad is taking a whoopin' like this. Welp, that's it for the first half. I'll get to round 2 before I crash tonight or first thing in the morning. I hope you guys are diggin' this blog so far because I'm having a blast. Catch you after the game! Go Buckeyes!!

In the beginning....

Trox created the heavens and the earth...and he saw it was...wait...Wrong piece of holy literature. WELCOME TO MY BLOG! Don't worry it isn't about Jesus or anything. I'm not much for getting biblical or preachy. I just wanted to get your attention. Did you close the window yet? Good.
If you're still here then you are probably already wondering "why?" And the answer to that is pretty simple. I am an average guy with an average life. I have average hopes and average ambitions. Before this starts to sound more like a campaign slogan than it already does, my point is that I'm like you. OK, maybe not JUST like you, but I am enough like you to know exactly what you want.
Here's what I'm hoping to accomplish...I want to write on any and every topic that any of my readers deem noteworthy. Serious, funny, controversial, taboo, doesn't matter. I would like to share stories, life experiences, and advice with everyone. This is not an anti-blog or a blog about blogging, but while I'm on the subject I'd just like to say I hate the word "blog". It sounds like the noise my dogs make when they drink water too fast right after they eat and then they chuck it up all over the hardwood. So, if you notice me referring to this "endeavor" as something other than a "blog" for the first few rounds it's not because that isn't what this is, I just need some time to get comfortable with it before I put away the Swiffer Wet-Jet.
"So, Trox, what is it all for???" Is a quoted query that I have not yet been asked by a single person, but will still gladly answer in the best way I know how... I have no idea. Not a clue. All I know is that, like a lot of people, I have 2,567,714 ideas swirling around my brain at any given moment and it would be nice to let anyone jump inside my head to chill for a few just so I know if any of them are worthwhile. I probably have undiagnosed adult A.D.D. Therapy is pretty expensive. My health insurance doesn't cover 'crazy'. Truth is, I work in a slow-moving retail environment where there is little stimulation and even less need for brain power. Over time I have felt my mind starting to become mush. This doodad is the spawn of my latent creativity and sheer unadulterated boredom.
I've always been of the opinion that only a specific type of person writes or subscribes to one of these silly things. Most of the blogs I've ever read have either been crafted by an expert in a field of my interest (sports, movies, music, etc) or by a smug smarmy little snob of a pretentious prick who wants to let the entire internet universe know how much better, richer, smarter, healthier, or whateverier they are than everyone else who is being blessed with the honor and privilege of stumbling across their blog. (Don't get me wrong, some of those are actually pretty good too.) What I'm getting at is that most people who blog..(gross..there I said it) are pretty self-important, and they would have you believe they are expressing opinions that should matter to you, the things they discuss are important, and that their views on the subject are 'the facts'. I guess I'm no different. I hope you care.
The readers of these blogs follow along for a number of reasons. Maybe they have a void that needs a fillin'. Or a new hobby that they are learning about. Or maybe they just have 20 minutes before lunch to kill in their cubicle at their boring-as-all-hell job, and if someone could just make them laugh, cry, or think for second it would break up the monotony of their otherwise repetitive and predictable little existence. Again, I'm no different, so if this thingamajig is for nothing else than to listen to myself think, I'd be cool with it, but what if it could be more.. Yeah..I like that.. it sounds pretty Disney.
This is more of an introductory entry..(is that what they are called? Entries? I'm still a noob.) than a content entry. With this post (ahhh there it is! POST!!) I just wanted to get my feet wet a little and see if I even have a good time trying to be creative anymore. When you're little, being creative is awesome! You color pictures outside the lines and build bike ramps that don't necessarily work and then all the grown ups tell you what an amazing job you did and how you should be an artist or an architect... The reality is that when you grow up people expect results. Ducks aren't blue unless you are Billy Madison and the first time it rains you're gonna try to hit that ramp going a little too fast and trash your brand new California orange GT Performer (possible story for another post.) This doohickey is kind of a way for me to pull the handlebars out of my scrotum, brush away some of the mud from my Heat-X-Change color changing shirt, pick up a few of my bloody chiclets from the earth, and get back on the creative bicycle. They say you never forget how to do it.

This will be a tremendous opportunity for anyone who ever said things to me like, "Trox you are soooo funny! You should be a comedian!" -Thanks Grandma or "I really like your writing style! You should give something to the world."-Thanks Mrs. Denny Grade:2 or "Trox, why the hell don't you just keep your big mouth shut?!" - Pretty much everyone besides those two sweet old ladies , to see what I'm really made of.
So, in some ways, I suppose this whole deal is going to be something like the Bible after all..whatever the reason for your devotion, whether it's to feel enlightened, be entertained, find meaning, dissect it for contradiction, laugh with me, or laugh at me, I sincerely thank you for checking it out, and I hope you enjoy it.

                                                                           Warmest Regards,                                                                            Trox

Saudade

I miss Brazil. A lot. But I guess that's obvious. I mean, we're moving back to Brazil this year. And the title of this post can be loosing translated into "nostalgia".

All of this "returning to Brazil" business has started to make me think about the city Manaus; my E's hometown, the city I lived/worked/loved in for a year (after college).  I love Manaus, Amazonas and miss it like crazy. I can't wait to get back and am planning to visit next Christmas/New Years there this year.

These pictures were not taken by me, but they do represent my experiences.

Teatro Amazonas
The Port of Manaus
The Port of Manaus
The Amazon River (outside of Manaus)

Ponta Negra

In addition to the three trips that I made to Manaus (and I stayed there for one of those trips to work), I have also visited Porto Alegre (my first ever trip to Brazil), Rio de Janeiro (twice), and São Paulo. What is there not to like?

Porto Alegre

São Paulo

Rio de Janeiro

These pictures make me miss Brazil even more. Bateu saudade mesmo.

At the end...a guy always blames girl

Girl, you’re such a bad influence
And you’ve got ways to make me do what you want.
Girl, you’re such a bad influence;
I’ve got to stay away.

I’ve been hurt in all of the worst kind of ways,
And it’s you pretty baby,
I’ve just got to stay away from.
I won’t go through those same things again;

This song is the first thing that came to my mind when I spoke to that person.I never wanted to influence anybody, nor did I want them to change. I never said do this for me, this is what I want. One person I ever tried to change never did, all the remaining people why do you blame me? I never asked them to start smoking. I never said stop studying, I never said start flirting with girls, and cheat on them. I never asked them to change your name to something stupid and say I changed because of you. No,no,no!!! I am not responsible for the things that happened in your life nor for the changes you went through! dont say it was because of me. Didn't you have your brains to think, didn't you take your own decisions? then why blame me?
Oh god!! if it was one person one thing, so many people!! I just hate it!! guess I am just going to rot in hell! aaarggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do I speak English, Portuguese, or neither?

When I left Brazil in 2005 I spoke Portuguese with only the slightest accent; however, I could barely write an e-mail. Over time, my reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills have pretty much balanced themselves out and I consider myself fluent although my Portuguese language skills are no match for my English language abilities. I don't just mean because English is my native tongue, but I am college educated in English and I know that although I can write well in Portuguese, my ability is not even close to what I can do in English.

With that being said, I feel that I confuse the two languages (and don't even get me started on my Spanish language skills). When I return to Brazil I want to devote time and energy to improving my Portuguese, especially my writing. Maybe I'll finally make some use out of the grammar book(s) I own.

I used to be so adamant about not code switching when I speak Portuguese. But as E becomes more fluent in English and I speak less Portuguese on a daily basis, it's just kind of happened and I don't bother avoiding it. Code switching can be fun. I mean, who doesn't want to say "Você vai fazer laundry?" ["Are you going to do laundry?"] or "Vou pro office". The issue I have with all of this language confusion is that I occasionally forget words that I want to use in English and I'm not even living abroad (yet). It wouldn't be such a big deal to me if I could instead remember the word in Portuguese. I can't help it - second language acquisition is very interesting to me (and part of my Master's studies).

I guess what I need to figure out is how to separate English from Portuguese (and Portuguese from Spanish) in my brain. In the meantime, I'll just enjoy my multilingualism.
